On my weekday downtown commute I read the San Francisco Examiner (a local paper which does a great job covering local news). Last week there was an article about the growing "street-food scene" and Roaming Hunger, a website that tracks the movement of street-food vendors.
According to Roaming Hunger there are now more than 58 mobile food vendors in the San Francisco Bay Area, planted in neighborhoods all over the City and Peninsula, offering a variety of epicurean edibles, including gumbo, waffles, curry, and even escargot dipped in butter.
I forwarded the article to my friend Sylvia , proprietress of Pearl's Deluxe Burgers a San Francisco cult-status burger spot from whose response I excerpt the following comments:
"Yes, the roach coach has come a long way. This new fascination with food carts started with a New York Times article a year or so ago that featured a Korean-Mexican-fusion taco truck.....they Twitter their nightly location, which is usually outside of a trendy nightclub or bar for the after-hours crowd"
Is this the New World Order of which I have heard so much about for years?
